The bodies were recovered after police broke open a locked room in SBI Colony near Tiranga Chowk late on Wednesday night. Police said the man was a native of Kerala and worked at a private hospital in Saharanpur, while the woman was from the Gagalhedi police station area. Police are also questioning local residents. Circle Officer (City-II) Manoj Kumar Yadav told PTI that the Sadar Bazar police station received information around 11 pm on Wednesday that a man living in rented accommodation had locked the room from inside and was not responding despite repeated knocks. "When the police reached the spot and looked inside through a window, the circumstances appeared suspicious. The door was then broken open, following which the bodies of a man and a woman were recovered from the room," Yadav said.
The police have not disclosed the names of the victims yet. "Prima facie, the case appears to be related to a love affair. Initial investigation suggests that the man slit the veins of his wrist before hanging himself partially from a window, while the woman appears to have died after consuming some poisonous substance," Yadav said. He added that no external injury marks were found on the woman's body. The man's body was found hanging from a ceiling fan with blood oozing from his wrist, while the woman's body was lying on the floor.
Police said the deaths are being investigated, with post-mortem findings, forensic evidence and the seized mobile phones expected to help establish what happened inside the room. Ends
