Last Updated: May 19, 2026, 07:27 IST US-Israel-Iran War Ceasefire News Today Live: Iran on Monday announced a new body to manage the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping routes. The new authority, called the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), will provide updates on operations and developments in the strait. Iranian media said the body is part of Tehran’s effort to strengthen control over the waterway, which it has effectively closed while warning that ships may face new rules and charges.
At the same time, Iran confirmed that talks with the United States are continuing through Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator. Tehran said it had replied to a new American proposal aimed at ending the conflict that began in late February after US and Israeli strikes on Iran. According to Iranian reports, Washington wants Iran to limit its nuclear activities and move its enriched uranium stockpile to the US.
Iran also says the US has refused to release most frozen Iranian assets or pay compensation for war damage. Meanwhile, tensions remain high across the Gulf as Saudi Arabia and the UAE reported drone incidents on Sunday. No group has claimed responsibility so far. Additionally, US President Donald Trump has again warned Iran to reach a peace deal quickly or face consequences, saying “there won’t be anything left of them”.
