Rapid Read (Screengrabs from X) Novak Djokovic was so comfortable during his commanding Wimbledon victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas that he even found time to pull off a light-hearted prank on a ball girl, leaving Centre Court in stitches. The seven-time Wimbledon champion was cruising through his second-round clash when he called over a ball girl to help trim the black tape wrapped around his right shoulder. As she carefully cut the tape with a pair of scissors, Djokovic suddenly cried out in mock pain, catching the unsuspecting youngster completely off guard.
Novak pranked the ball girl 😂 pic.twitter.com/p7OKfp6V1M— ESPN (@espn) July 1, 2026 Startled, the visibly shocked ball girl instinctively stepped back, clutching her chest as she feared she had accidentally hurt the 24-time Grand Slam champion in front of a packed Centre Court and millions watching around the world. The moment lasted only a second before Djokovic burst into laughter, quickly revealing it was all part of a harmless joke. Realising she had been pranked, the relieved ball girl joined in the laughter as the crowd warmly applauded the exchange. After sealing a dominant 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Tsitsipas, Djokovic admitted he couldn’t resist having a little fun. “These kinds of things surface when you are two sets to love up rather than two sets to love down, but… I’m sorry if I scared her… it made me a bit more relaxed on the court.
I was just having some fun." The Serbian wasn’t finished entertaining the Centre Court crowd. During his post-match interview, Djokovic spotted golf star Rory McIlroy sitting in the Royal Box wearing his iconic Green Masters jacket and immediately turned his attention to the Northern Irishman. “Rory, what a beautiful jacket. Is that a Masters jacket?" After McIlroy nodded in confirmation, Djokovic jokingly proposed an unusual challenge. “I want that jacket. I’ll play you. This jacket for that jacket, we play tennis, no golf." His dominant display also kept alive his pursuit of a record-extending 25th Grand Slam singles title and an eighth Wimbledon crown.
