Wimbledon 2026: Djokovic Roars Into Third Round As Sinner Survives Scare, Andreeva Crashes Out Published By, Last Updated: July 02, 2026, 07:17 IST Novak Djokovic stormed into the Wimbledon third round with a dominant display, while Jannik Sinner survived another stern test and Mirra Andreeva crashed out. Rapid Read (Credit: AP) Novak Djokovic reminded the tennis world why he’s still one of the favourites for Wimbledon glory, producing a vintage performance to sweep aside Stefanos Tsitsipas and book his place in the third round on Wednesday. The seven-time Wimbledon champion barely put a foot wrong during a ruthless 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory that lasted just 98 minutes. Djokovic struck 33 winners, committed only seven unforced errors and extended his remarkable dominance over Tsitsipas, winning their 12th straight meeting.
The emphatic display was a stark contrast to his opening-round struggle against Wu Yibing, where the 39-year-old was pushed far harder than expected. After a disappointing French Open campaign that ended with a third-round collapse against Joao Fonseca, Djokovic looked rejuvenated on Centre Court as he continued his pursuit of a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam singles title. The Serbian also moved within one victory of Roger Federer’s Open Era record for most men’s singles wins at Wimbledon, reaching 104 career victories at the All England Club. He will next face France’s Arthur Rinderknech. World No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner also advanced, but not without another stern examination. The Italian edged Portugal’s Nuno Borges 7-6(4), 7-6(2), 6-4 after already surviving a five-set scare in the opening round.
Andreeva Crashes Out The biggest upset of the day came in the women’s draw, where reigning French Open champion Mirra Andreeva crashed out. The teenage Russian, fresh off her maiden Grand Slam title in Paris, fell 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 to former Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova. Aryna Sabalenka overcame a spirited challenge from McCartney Kessler to progress, while Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula also booked their places in the third round. Meanwhile, Serena Williams’ hopes of continuing her comeback remain uncertain after suffering a knee injury during her singles defeat to Maya Joint. The 23-time Grand Slam champion is still hoping to feature alongside sister Venus in the doubles later this week, with her agent saying she is “doing everything she can to be ready."
