(Picture Credit: AFP) Harry Kane entered his name into the history books on Wednesday (July 1) by becoming the first England player to score five or more goals in multiple FIFA World Cup editions. Kane, England’s all-time leading goalscorer in both men’s international football and FIFA World Cup history, scored twice against DR Congo in England’s Round of 32 match in Atlanta to take his tally to five goals at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The Bayern Munich striker made his FIFA World Cup debut in 2018 and scored six goals in that edition to win the Golden Boot. He then found the net twice at the 2022 FIFA World Cup before reaching the five-goal mark again in the 2026 edition. Overall, Kane is only the sixth player, after Teófilo Cubillas, Miroslav Klose, Thomas Muller, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé, to score five or more goals in multiple FIFA World Cup editions. Teófilo Cubillas played in the 1970 and 1978 editions of FIFA World Cup for Peru and scored five times each. Klose, who represented Germany in four FIFA World Cups (2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014), scored five goals in both the 2002 and 2006 editions and Muller scored five goals each in the 2010 and 2014 editions for Germany.
Messi, the all-time leading goal-scorer in FIFA World Cup history, scored seven goals for Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and has already netted six times in this year’s tournament. Meanwhile, Mbappé scored eight goals for France at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and has also scored six goals so far at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
