The joint parliamentary committee reviewing the controversial 130th Constitution Amendment Bill is expected to submit its report on July 17. The proposed bill seeks to introduce provisions for the automatic removal of prime ministers, chief ministers, and other ministers from office if they remain in detention for thirty consecutive days due to serious offences.
To address concerns, safeguards are likely to be included to prevent the misuse of the legislation for political vendetta. The bill is slated to be introduced during the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, which is anticipated to commence on July 20. Previously, several ministers remained in office while running public offices from jail, causing government embarrassment.
