A joint letter signed by 117 Indians and Pakistanis, including O.P. Shah, Chairman of the Center for Peace and Progress, urges the Prime Ministers of both nations to resume dialogue. The letter advocates for discussions on Jammu and Kashmir, revisiting the 2004-2007 framework, and steps toward demilitarisation, including the Siachen Glacier. During an India First broadcast, the anchor questioned Shah on why the initiative did not put the onus on Pakistan to stop cross-border terrorism as a precondition for talks.
The broadcast highlighted past instances where Indian peace efforts were followed by terror incidents. Shah defended the initiative, stating it represents a common desire among citizens to create trust, reduce military expenditure, and prioritise social sectors. The anchor accused the signatories of peddling Pakistan's agenda by pushing for demilitarisation and equating the victim of terror with the perpetrator. Shah maintained that the effort focuses on building goodwill without supporting terrorism and clarified that the initiative is a plea for dialogue.
