A group of 117 citizens from India and Pakistan has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, advocating for the resumption of dialogue, trade, and peace. Signatories include Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Manoj Jha, Mani Shankar Aiyar, and AS Dulat. The appeal comes at a time when Pakistan is issuing threats over the Indus Waters Treaty. Pakistan Peoples Party chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari warned of profound consequences over the suspension of water flow, while Pakistan Minister Musaddiq Malik threatened to cut off hands claiming Pakistan's share of water.
The push for peace has sparked criticism, with the BJP calling the move shameful and Congress leaders questioning the motive. India maintains a hardened anti-terror doctrine, reiterating that terror and talks cannot go together and demanding credible action against terrorists like Hafiz Saeed, Masood Azhar, and Dawood Ibrahim before any dialogue can resume.
