Two persons were arrested by the Commissioner’s Task Force, Khairatabad Zone, for allegedly selling expired medicines and nutritional products after a surprise inspection at two medical shops in MS Maqtha, Khairatabad. The accused were identified as Mohd Azharuddin, 41, owner of AL Zamzam Chemist and Druggist and AL Shifa Medical and General Store, and Syed Sohail, 20, an employee at AL Zamzam Chemist and Druggist.
The teams seized 3,187 expired medicines and other products, along with a mobile phone. The total value of the seized property was estimated at ₹98,277. Acting on credible information, the Task Force conducted inspections at the two establishments, both located within the Lake police station limits. During the raids, officials found a large quantity of expired medicines allegedly stocked for sale.
Police said the manufacturing and expiry details printed on medicine strips had allegedly been cut or removed before the products were sold to customers. Officials also found expired protein supplements, energy powders, digestive aids and nutritional products that were allegedly being offered for sale despite being unfit for human consumption. Officials said the licences used to operate the two medical shops were registered in the names of pharmacists Ameena Begum and Rapaka Anil Kumar.
The accused and the seized material were handed over to the Drug Inspector, Khairatabad Zone, for further legal action. Police have advised people check the manufacturing and expiry dates before purchasing medicines and to report the sale of expired or suspicious medicines to the authorities.
