(Getty Images via AFP) Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is reportedly hospitalised after suffering a heart failure inside his prison cell in New York. According to TMZ, citing sources, Weinstein was incarcerated on Rikers Island in New York City about two weeks ago when he experienced heart failure linked to pneumonia. He was rushed for emergency medical care after his condition worsened inside the jail facility.
The 74-year-old has faced several health scares during his time in custody over recent years. In his latest medical emergency, Weinstein was said to be struggling to breathe, prompting authorities to transfer him to the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward in Manhattan. He has reportedly been receiving treatment there since. Weinstein’s representatives have not issued an official statement on the latest development. Legal Troubles Continue The latest health scare comes as Weinstein continues to face ongoing legal developments. Last week, a California appeals court upheld his conviction for rape and sexual assault but vacated his 16-year prison sentence, ordering that he be resentenced. The ruling relates to his 2022 conviction for the 2013 rape and assault of an actress in a Los Angeles hotel room.
The three-judge panel directed that the sentence be set aside and the case sent back for resentencing, although the full reasoning behind the decision has not yet been made public. The development also followed a separate legal shift in New York, where prosecutors moved to drop a sex assault case tied to an alleged 2013 attack after earlier trials collapsed. Weinstein remains a central figure in the global MeToo movement, which erupted after dozens of allegations of abuse surfaced in 2017, exposing decades of alleged misconduct in the entertainment industry and triggering widespread accountability across Hollywood.
