The door-to-door data collection drive for the 2027 Census officially commenced in Kollam district on Wednesday. To ensure the smooth execution of the process, the district administration has deployed a massive team of 4,911 enumerators and 837 supervisors to coordinate operations on the ground. The entire district has been mapped into 4,595 house-listing blocks, with each block containing up to 150 households to streamline the data collection.
The self-enumeration phase, which allowed citizens to log and submit their details independently, had concluded on June 30. More than 50,000 residents in the district actively participated and registered their details through this self-enumeration portal before the deadline, District Collector Anie Jula Thomas said. Emphasising that accurate data collection is vital for national progress, the District Collector urged all citizens to extend their full cooperation to the visiting census officials and added that providing false information is a punishable offence.
The Collector further clarified that actions such as providing misleading answers, obstructing census officials, removing marking stickers pasted on houses, or refusing to fill out the official census schedule forms will be
treated as serious violations. Additionally, non-compliance with official orders to spare buildings, vehicles, or land for census-related activities can lead to a prison sentence of up to one year, a fine, or both.
