The district administration, in collaboration with the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), has launched the Kalaburagi Rotti Global Challenge 2026 to encourage innovative business ideas centred on the city’s Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged Kalaburagi Rotti and help transform them into viable food start-ups. Addressing a press conference at her office in Kalaburagi on Wednesday, Assistant Commissioner Sahitya Aladakatti said that the initiative aims to build a globally recognised food brand around Kalaburagi Rotti.
“The challenge is open to all, with a special focus on encouraging college students and fresh graduates to come up with innovative ideas for expanding the reach of Kalaburagi Rotti and related products in national and international markets,” she said. She said that the screening of participating teams will be held at the VTU Regional Centre on July 6, followed by the final round on July 12.
“The winning team will receive incubation support, assistance in securing seed funding and mentorship to help develop its start-up,” she added. Interested participants from across Kalyana Karnataka can register by scanning the QR code provided on the official poster before July 5. There is no age restriction for participation. For further information or clarifications, participants may contact the KDEM helpline on Ph: 7259885680,” she said.
