A thorough enquiry has been ordered by the Municipal Corporation after an uprooted tree collapsed onto a school bus in Mumbai's Chembur, leading to the death of an eleven-year-old boy. The sixty to seventy-year-old tree was reportedly inspected and pruned in May, and was found to be sturdy and safe by civic authorities. However, local residents allege they had previously raised concerns about the dangers posed by the trees.
A civic panel, comprising the Deputy Commissioner Special Engineering and Deputy Commissioner Engineering, has been set up under instructions from the commissioner to investigate the accident and submit a report within an eight-day timeline.
