Following the Trinamool Congress's defeat in the Assembly polls, eggs flying at TMC leaders and crowds chanting "chor, chor" have become common. On Wednesday, TMC MP Mahua Moitra became the latest target of "dim-o-cracy". In a Facebook Live broadcast, Moitra accused "BJP goons" of throwing eggs and brinjals at her office in Krishnanagar, where she was holding a meeting with party workers. Read Full Story Interestingly, the incident came on a day the Calcutta High Court pulled up the BJP-led Bengal government over the spate of egg-hurling incidents against TMC leaders.
The court said that hurling eggs at politicians "has become a social evil". On Wednesday, a group of protesters gathered outside the building, waved black flags and raised "go back" slogans. Visuals showed the crowd throwing eggs and brinjals at the building, targeting Moitra. Broadcasting live from the upper floor of the party office, Moitra said, "This is the law-and-order situation in the state. None of these people are ordinary citizens; they are BJP goons," the Lok Sabha MP from Krishnanagar said.
In the video, Moitra could be seen protecting herself using a curtain as the mob continued to throw eggs and brinjals towards the window.
