President of India Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday (July 1, 2026) called on young graduates to make learning and innovation their lifelong pursuits, saying the ability to adapt to rapid technological changes would define success in an increasingly knowledge-driven world. Addressing the first convocation of the Central University of Andhra Pradesh (CUAP) at Janthaluru village of Bukkarayasamudram mandal, 20 km from Ananthapuramu, the President said a university degree should mark the beginning, rather than the end, of the pursuit of knowledge. “With emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence transforming every sphere of life, continuous learning and the courage to explore new ideas would remain essential for personal growth and national progress,” Ms. Murmu said.

Calling on the graduates to use their education to improve the lives of others, the President said they could choose careers in science, entrepreneurship, public service or social work. “Education should empower individuals to address societal challenges and contribute to inclusive development,” she said. Emphasising the importance of values alongside academic excellence, Ms. Murmu said honesty, empathy, compassion and respect for nature were indispensable qualities for responsible citizens. The President said the Central University of Andhra Pradesh in Ananthapuramu held immense potential to emerge as a leading centre of higher learning and innovation in the country.

“Institutions of higher education would play a pivotal role in achieving the national vision of a developed India by 2047,” she said. Murmu said India’s youth were its greatest strength, and urged the graduating class to combine knowledge with integrity, creativity and a spirit of service.
