Quad To Launch Fuel Security Forum As Energy Route Concerns Grow Published By, Last Updated: May 26, 2026, 15:39 IST Quad Foreign Ministers plan a Quad Fuel Security Forum, launch Indo-Pacific energy security initiative, reaffirm port infrastructure, and condemn terrorism including attacks. MEA press briefing on the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in New Delhi on Tuesday. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday said the Quad Foreign Ministers, during their meeting, announced their intention to convene a Quad Fuel Security Forum while reiterating their commitment towards ensuring energy stability and security. In a press conference after the meeting, MEA spokesperson Nagaraj Naidu Kakanur said: “The ministers underlined the importance of freedom of navigation, unimpeded commerce, and the safety and security of seafarers, including through key maritime routes. In light of the recent disruptions in global energy markets, the Quad has launched the initiative on Indo-Pacific Energy Security." He further said: “The effort is aimed at leveraging the unique resources that Quad partners bring to the table, and the idea is to come up with an engagement plan that will focus on technology, management, international market analysis, and emergency response." Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting LIVE India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar hosted foreign ministers from the US, Japan, and Australia in New Delhi for the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
The meeting comes in the wake of ongoing conflict in West Asia. Major topics of discussion include the conflict in West Asia and how it is affecting shipping routes and energy supplies. The countries also raised concerns on the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz and how it could disrupt free movement of ships through key global trade routes, including those in the Indo-Pacific region. “The Ministers underscored the importance of maritime security and resilient sea links in the Indo-Pacific. The Quad has expanded its cooperation under the IPMDA (Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness), including efforts towards a comprehensive, common operational picture across the Indo-Pacific. The Quad today launched the Indo-Pacific Maritime Surveillance Collaboration (IPMSC). This is aimed to strengthen the coordination in maritime surveillance. IPMSC, with the integration of the latest technologies, will augment the IPMDA and enable sharing of real-time information and provide an enhanced picture of vessels," Kakanur said. Pointing out the success of the Quad Ports of the Future Conference that India had hosted in Mumbai last year, the MEA spokesperson during the press conference said the Quad has reaffirmed its commitment to trusted and resilient infrastructure, including port infrastructure development in Fiji.
He also said that the Foreign Ministers reviewed progress on the Quad agenda and also discussed global issues. Naidu further said that the Quad Foreign Ministers, during the meeting, condemned terrorism and cross-border terrorism. “The ministers emphasised the importance of trusted technology partnerships in areas such as 5G, 6G, AI," he said while adding that the Quad also announced a framework on critical minerals. The MEA spokesperson said that counter-terrorism is a significant pillar of the Quad cooperation. “The ministers strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism. The joint statements specifically condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025 and reiterated the need for decisive international action against terrorist entities, finances, and sponsors," he said. “The meeting reaffirmed the Quad’s commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific and emphasised that the Quad continues to evolve as a practical and action-oriented platform, delivering tangible benefits for the region. Discussions focussed around four pillars of Quad cooperation. 1) Maritime and transnational security, 2) Economic prosperity and security, 3) Critical and emerging technologies and 4) Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response," Kakanur added.
