With this, a total of 1,504 internship positions would be available for FMGs every year. This has fulfilled a long-pending demand of hundreds of FMGs, who had passed the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination and were waiting for the mandatory CRMI.
After this issue was continuously pursued with the Medical Commission (NMC), permission was granted for FMGs to undergo CRMI training in 23 district headquarters hospitals and 13 other hospitals in the State, a press release issued by the Health department said. Now, 750 positions in district headquarters hospitals and 370 positions in other hospitals have been created, taking the total number of internship positions for FMGs to 1,504 a year.
While this has resolved the issue faced by FMGs who have been waiting for CRMI training for long, they will be posted for the first time at district headquarters hospitals, thereby strengthening healthcare services for the public.
