(IMAGE: REUTERS) Jio-bp, the operating brand of Reliance BP Mobility Limited (RBML), partnered with Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) this week to deploy EV charging infrastructure and services for more than 100 electric buses across Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, marking a major push towards large-scale electric public mobility in north India. The initiative, which will be enabled through Jio-bp pulse, the company’s electric mobility business, is expected to roll out over the next few months across six key clusters in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
The partnership is aimed at strengthening public EV mobility infrastructure while supporting the growing shift towards cleaner and more sustainable mass transit systems. “India’s transition towards sustainable mobility will be driven by strong public-private partnerships and the rapid electrification of mass transit systems, in line with the Government of India’s vision for cleaner and future-ready mobility. This collaboration between Jio-bp and UPSRTC is one of many important steps towards accelerating EV adoption at scale across high-utilization public transport corridors. As an organization, we remain committed to enabling this transition through reliable and accessible charging infrastructure as part of our broader efforts to support India’s sustainable mobility journey," said Sarthak Behuria. As part of the collaboration, Jio-bp will deploy fast-charging infrastructure designed to support high-frequency commercial fleet operations. The company said the charging network is expected to help reduce turnaround time for buses while improving operational efficiency across electric fleet services.
The partnership comes at a time when India is accelerating efforts to electrify public transportation, with charging infrastructure emerging as a critical requirement for large-scale EV adoption in the commercial mobility segment. “This partnership with UPSRTC aligns closely with Jio-bp’s strategy of building a robust and scalable B2B EV charging ecosystem for India. With more than 6,000 charging points across the country, Jio-bp is steadily expanding its EV infrastructure footprint to support the growing demand for electric mobility. By supporting high-frequency electric bus operations with fast-charging infrastructure, we are strengthening our presence in commercial fleet electrification while enabling efficient, future-ready mobility solutions across key transportation corridors," added Akshay Wadhwa. The project also underlines the increasing role of private sector participation in India’s clean mobility transition, aligned with the Government of India’s broader net-zero ambitions and efforts to scale electric public transport adoption across Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities.
The latest collaboration further expands Jio-bp pulse’s growing portfolio of fleet and public transit electrification projects across India, adding to a charging network that the company says is rapidly expanding in scale, reach and reliability.
