Indigo's New ‘Lite’ Fare Could Save You This Amount Published By, Last Updated: July 01, 2026, 13:32 IST The fare includes an auto-assigned seat and allows passengers to carry one cabin bag weighing up to 7 kg, but does not include check-in baggage by default. Rapid Read The fare will be applicable across IndiGo's domestic and international flights. IndiGo Lite: India’s leading low-cost airline, IndiGo on Wednesday launched a new budget fare category, ‘IndiGo Lite’, allowing passengers travelling with only cabin baggage to book tickets at lower prices as airlines look to make flying more affordable by unbundling services. The new scheme is aimed at Economy Class passengers who travel with only cabin baggage. The new fare, available for bookings through IndiGo’s website, mobile app and contact centre from July 1, will be applicable on domestic and international non-stop flights for travel from July 15.
Cheaper Fares For Light Travellers Under the new fare category, passengers travelling with only cabin baggage can save around Rs 300-400 on domestic routes, while discounts on international flights will vary by sector, news agency Reuters reported. The fare includes an auto-assigned seat and allows passengers to carry one cabin bag weighing up to 7 kg, but does not include check-in baggage by default. Passengers who later decide to check in luggage can purchase the service separately before departure. IndiGo said the new fare is designed for passengers who travel light and want greater flexibility over their travel spending. The airline said the fare will be available for one-way, round-trip and multicity bookings for both adults and children across its domestic and international non-stop network. Commenting on the launch, IndiGo Chief Strategy Officer Aloke Singh said the airline was expanding its product portfolio in line with changing customer preferences and aimed to make air travel more accessible and affordable.
The move comes as Indian airlines grapple with rising operating costs driven by higher aviation turbine fuel prices, airspace disruptions and intense competition. Last month, Air India introduced a new “Basic" economy fare that excludes complimentary meals for price-conscious travellers while retaining the standard baggage allowance. It costs less anywhere between Rs 300 and Rs 700 for those foregoing the airline’s complimentary meal served onboard. Instead of increasing fares across the board, airlines are increasingly offering lower base fares by allowing customers to pay only for the services they use.
