Of the seven victims, five were charred to death after the bus caught fire, while two others succumbed to severe head injuries sustained in the crash, according to news agency PTI. The accident took place near Dhanawda under the Kolwa police station area in the early hours of Wednesday when a passenger bus rammed into a truck travelling ahead of it. The impact triggered a massive fire that engulfed both vehicles, sparking panic among passengers.
According to the latest update, there were 39 passengers on board the bus. Twenty-two injured passengers were rescued from the vehicle, with most of them suffering burn injuries. The injured were rushed to Dausa District Hospital, while several critically injured passengers were referred to higher medical centres for advanced treatment. Dausa Superintendent of Police Piyush Dixit told PTI that the bus was travelling from Rishikesh in Uttarakhand to Indore in Madhya Pradesh when it collided with a truck moving ahead on the expressway. According to police, the bus was operated by Hans Travels of Indore. News agency ANI reported that the accident occurred between 2 am and 3 am near a rest area under the Kolwa police station limits. According to police, the bus lost control after hitting the trailer and plunged into a roadside gorge. Shortly after the crash, a fire broke out in the rear portion of the bus.
Most passengers were asleep when the accident took place. Eyewitnesses told ANI that the force of the collision threw passengers sleeping on the upper berths onto those below, leaving several of them seriously injured. Women and children were also among the injured. Some passengers managed to escape from the bus before the fire spread, while others were rescued by police, emergency personnel and residents. Police, ambulance services, fire brigade personnel and residents launched rescue operations soon after receiving information about the accident. Authorities also created a green corridor to ensure that the injured were transported to Dausa District Hospital without delay. The blaze was later brought under control by the fire brigade. Police have seized the bus and the truck involved in the accident and launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest the bus went out of control after colliding with the truck, though the exact cause of the accident is yet to be established.
