(File photo) US President Donald Trump on Sunday issued a stark warning to Iran, saying there would be nothing left of the country if it does not accept the latest US peace proposal aimed at ending the war. “For Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!" he wrote in a post on Truth Social.
The warning came shortly after Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which the leaders reportedly discussed the war in Iran. The conflict began after the US and Israel jointly carried out military strikes in Iran on February 28. The discussion between Trump and Netanyahu comes amid reports that the US and Israel are preparing to resume military strikes against Iran. Netanyahu had earlier said that he was scheduled to speak with Trump to discuss the US president’s recent visit to China, adding that Iran would feature prominently in their talks. Since April 8, the US and Iran have maintained a fragile ceasefire, while efforts to negotiate a peace deal have stalled. Earlier today, Iranian media reported that Washington had failed to offer any substantial concessions in response to Iran’s proposed agenda for negotiations.
According to the Fars news agency, the US presented a five-point list, including a demand that Iran maintain only one operational nuclear site and transfer its stockpile of highly enriched uranium to the United States. The report added that the US had refused to release even a quarter of Iran’s frozen assets abroad or provide reparations for the damage inflicted during the war. Meanwhile, Pakistan has continued its role as a mediator. Iranian media reported that Pakistan’s Interior Minister visited Tehran on Saturday to facilitate stalled talks between Iran and the US. Mohsin Naqvi’s visit followed a recent trip by Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and comes after Islamabad hosted a high-level meeting between delegations from both sides last month.
