Paqueta sustained a muscle injury during Brazil’s win against Japan. In a statement, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed that Paqueta has suffered a muscle injury to his left thigh. He will remain under the supervision of the team’s medical staff and will rejoin the team once he has recovered. “Player Lucas Paquetá underwent imaging tests this Tuesday, which confirmed a muscle injury in the back of his left thigh. The player will follow an intensive treatment protocol, under the supervision of the Brazilian Team’s medical staff, aiming for his recovery and return to activities as soon as possible," the statement said. As per Globo, Paqueta’s injury has ended his FIFA World Cup campaign, with the report claiming he is unlikely to recover in time even if Brazil reach the final.
The report surfaced just over a day after Carlo Ancelotti admitted Brazil were still unsure about the extent of Paqueta’s injury, suggesting the problem hadn’t appeared to be a major concern at the time. “We have to assess him tomorrow. It was a very demanding match. Japan are well organised and intense. Winning was very important," Ancelotti said. Brazil’s medical staff have been kept busy throughout the summer, with Neymar sidelined since the team assembled for training. Although he returned after missing the opening two group-stage games, he has featured for just 15 minutes at the FIFA World Cup till now. Wesley was included in the team but suffered an injury in Brazil’s final warm-up game, ruling him out of the tournament.
