Delhi EV Buyers Must Apply For Subsidy Within 30 Days Of RC Generation, Portal To Go Live In A Week Published By, Last Updated: July 01, 2026, 08:05 IST Delhi's new EV Policy requires buyers to claim subsidies through a government portal within 30 days of RC generation, replacing the dealer-assisted application process. Photo of an electric vehicle being charged at a station (PTI) People purchasing electric vehicles in Delhi under the newly approved EV Policy 2026 will have to apply for government subsidies themselves through a dedicated online portal within 30 days of generating the vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC), marking a significant departure from the previous system under which dealers assisted buyers with the application process. According to The Indian Express, the Transport Department is developing the online portal, which is expected to be ready within a week. The platform will serve as the nodal system for implementing the policy, processing subsidy applications and monitoring its implementation. Under the earlier EV policy introduced by the AAP government, dealers helped buyers file subsidy applications at the time of purchase, following which the incentive amount was transferred directly to beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism after processing.
The new policy, however, places the responsibility of submitting subsidy claims on vehicle owners. A senior official was quoted as saying, “Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has approved the policy. The Transport department will be notified of the policy through a gazette notification with effect from Wednesday." The official added that once notified, directions will be issued to vehicle dealers to explain the incentive provisions to customers and inform them whether the EV model they are purchasing is eligible for government incentives. “The department is developing the EV portal, which is expected to be ready within a week. It will serve as the nodal platform for implementing the policy, processing subsidy applications and monitoring the implementation," the official said. The report mentioned that buyers will be able to register on the portal and submit their subsidy claims online. Incentives will be transferred directly to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through the DBT system, while claims will be processed using the Centre’s Public Financial Management System. The Delhi government is also developing an EV dashboard that will provide real-time information on charging infrastructure across the city.
