The Ankola police in Uttara Kannada district have arrested three persons for allegedly illegally possessing and storing crude country-made bombs, which they claimed were meant for catching fish. According to the police, on June 30, Inspector Chandrashekhar Mathapati and his team were on patrol near Hattikeri in Ankola when they received credible information that two residents of Honnalli village, Narayan Gowda and Nagaraj Gowda, had illegally stored crude country bombs.
The police, along with the Anti-Sabotage Check (ASC) team, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and panch witnesses, searched the accused’s premises. During questioning, Narayan and Nagaraj allegedly admitted that they had kept the crude bombs to catch fish. They further told investigators that after one of their relatives was killed in an accidental explosion in Tumakuru a few days ago, they hid the explosives in a nearby forest.
Based on their disclosure, the police recovered three crude country bombs from the forest. The explosives were seized and safely transported for secure storage and disposal. During the investigation, the accused allegedly revealed that the explosives had been supplied by Sandeep Gowda of Shiragunji village in Ankola taluk. A case has been registered at Ankola Police Station under Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908, and Section 288 of BNS, 2023.
