Ram Mandir Embezzlement Probe: Champat Rai Questioned, SBI Under Scanner, Congress Leaders Detained
The Uttar Pradesh Police questioned Champat Rai, the former General Secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust, for nearly three hours over the alleged embezzlement
The Uttar Pradesh Police questioned Champat Rai, the former General Secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust, for nearly three hours over the alleged embezzlement of devotees' donations at the Ram Mandir. Champat Rai, who recently resigned on moral grounds, denied any wrongdoing but could not explain the delay in filing a police complaint after recovering some funds. The Special Investigation Team flagged severe standard operating procedure violations regarding the memorandum of understanding with the State Bank of India.
Investigators spent four hours at the SBI Naya Ghat branch in Ayodhya, probing bank records and the accused's assets. Meanwhile, a nine-member Uttar Pradesh Congress delegation led by Ajay Rai was detained at their hotels and prevented from visiting the temple. The opposition termed this a betrayal of faith, while the BJP countered by stating the opposition had previously denied the existence of Lord Ram before twenty-seventeen.
The investigation raises questions about transparency in the management of temple offerings.
