Assam Police Seize 37 Kg Gold Worth ₹55 Crore In Guwahati, Bust Suspected Intl Smuggling Racket Assam Police have seized 37 kg of suspected smuggled 24-karat gold bars worth over ₹55 crore during an operation in Guwahati's Kharghuli area. Calling it the biggest gold seizure in the state's history, DCP Shambhavi Mishra said the accused, Akshay Bansode from Maharashtra, was arrested and is believed to have been part of an international gold smuggling network with links to the Middle East, Myanmar and several Indian cities.
Police said the accused had allegedly carried out similar operations on three earlier occasions and are continuing their investigation.
