YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) general secretary and Telugu Academy former Chairperson Nandamuri Lakshmi Parvathi on Tuesday alleged large-scale corruption, financial irregularities and administrative mismanagement in the Telugu Academy under the coalition government. Addressing the media at the YSRCP Central Office at Tadepalli, Ms. Lakshmi Parvathi claimed that the academy’s academic legacy had been undermined and accused HRD Minister Nara Lokesh of facilitating irregularities in its functioning.
The government had modified tender norms to award printing contracts to firms that had earlier been rejected. According to her, the printing cost of textbooks was increased from 20 paise to 30 paise per page, leading to unnecessary expenditure, she alleged. Lakshmi Parvathi further alleged that PDF files of the Intermediate second-year syllabus were sold to private colleges for ₹10 crore in violation of academy rules.
Although a police complaint had been filed, efforts were being made to close the case under political pressure. She also accused the academy’s leadership of making outsourced appointments without the Executive Council’s approval and alleged that relatives and associates were recruited on high salaries. Academy funds, she claimed, were being diverted for virtual programmes, YouTube channels and other non-academic activities. Highlighting the previous YSRCP government’s tenure, Ms. Lakshmi Parvathi said the academy had been revived through institutional reforms and had secured nearly ₹150 crore that was due to Andhra Pradesh during the division of assets.
She also alleged that the present government had failed to reimburse around ₹50 crore spent on printing free textbooks over the past two years, pushing the academy into financial distress.
