In the wake of the recent accident at a sewage treatment plant (STP) in Varthur, where two workers are feared to have died after three of them allegedly fell into a 40-ft-deep BWSSB sewage treatment tank, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) chairperson Manjula N. has directed employees to strictly adhere to safety protocols while working at STP facilities.
Speaking after inaugurating a health and safety workshop organised by the BWSSB at Cauvery Bhavan on Monday (June 29), Ms. Manjula said that employee safety must remain the organisation’s highest priority. She urged all staff working at STPs to exercise maximum caution and follow all prescribed precautionary measures to prevent accidents.
The workshop was organised to strengthen awareness of health and safety practices among employees and to reinforce the importance of adopting preventive measures during STP operations. Manjula said the initiative aimed to ensure that no untoward incidents occur while carrying out maintenance and operational work at STPs. She also encouraged employees to actively participate in discussions during the workshop and openly share operational challenges or safety concerns they encounter in the field.
Such interactions, she said, would help the BWSSB identify practical solutions and improve workplace safety standards across its sewage treatment facilities.
