An India Today fact check debunks several viral social media videos claiming to show the extreme impact of the current heatwave in Europe and other regions. A viral video of a melted traffic light, claimed to be from Germany, was actually shot in Italy and caused by a car fire. Another video showing melted car tyres in Arizona is at least two years old and unrelated to the current heatwave.
Similarly, footage of melting road tarmac and a splitting banana peel are old videos being shared with false narratives. While the ongoing heatwave is intense, these viral clips are fake.
