An interim report submitted by the Special Investigation Team to the Kerala High Court has named two former senior Travancore Devaswom Board officials in the alleged Sabarimala temple gold theft case. The investigation links former board president P.S. Prashant and former board member A. Ajitkumar to a conspiracy involving the misappropriation of gold from the temple. The SIT findings indicate that the accused removed the original gold cladding from the Dwarapalaka idols and replaced it with a thin layer of gold plating during a replating process in Chennai.
The officials are reportedly associated with the ruling Left Democratic Front, prompting political reactions. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) stated it would wait for the final SIT findings, while the Bharatiya Janata Party has threatened agitation if the state government fails to take action.
