A file photo of Twisha Sharma (L)/ A photo of Twisha Sharma with husband Samarth Singh (R) (Photos: Social Media) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of former actor-model Twisha Sharma conducted a recreation of the crime scene in Bhopal for over two hours on Monday, even as her husband, Samarth Singh, told investigators that she had been distressed following her abortion and reiterated that he had given her Rs 7 lakh, according to ANI, citing police sources. The development comes amid an intensifying probe into the death of the 33-year-old, who was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills on May 12. The case has now been taken over by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), while parallel court proceedings continue in the Madhya Pradesh High Court and the Supreme Court. According to ANI, the SIT recreated the crime scene for more than two hours before questioning Samarth Singh for nearly three hours.
During the interrogation, police sources said Samarth repeatedly attempted to mislead investigators when asked about the period during which he was allegedly absconding. Police further said that Samarth maintained before the SIT that Twisha had been under distress after undergoing an abortion. He also claimed that he had given her Rs 7 lakh. As part of the investigation, the SIT has seized Samarth Singh’s laptop, mobile phone, passport, Aadhaar card and other important documents, ANI reported, citing police. CBI REGISTERS FIR IN TWISHA SHARMA CASE Meanwhile, the CBI on Monday formally registered an FIR in the case, naming Samarth Singh and his mother Giribala Singh as accused after taking over the investigation from the Madhya Pradesh Police. According to PTI, the agency sent a Special Crime unit to Bhopal to collect documents and evidence before re-registering the state police FIR as its own case, in line with procedure. The CBI invoked sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act, the same charges that had earlier been applied by the state police. WHAT THE FIR ALLEGES The FIR states that Samarth Singh brought Twisha to AIIMS Bhopal after allegedly claiming that she had hanged herself at home around 10.20 pm on May 12. Doctors at the hospital informed police shortly after midnight that she had been brought dead.
The post-mortem report reportedly concluded that the death was caused by “antemortem hanging by ligature". However, it also noted “multiple antemortem injuries (simple in nature, possible by blunt force over other parts of the body have been noted)." After recording statements from Twisha’s family members and reviewing the post-mortem report, police registered an FIR on May 15. FAMILY ALLEGES DOWRY HARASSMENT Twisha’s family has accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment, domestic violence and mental torture. According to the FIR, family members alleged that the accused were dissatisfied with the dowry given during Twisha’s marriage on December 9, 2025. The FIR further cited statements from family members claiming that Twisha had spoken to her mother at 9.41 pm on the night of the incident. During the call, her husband was allegedly heard shouting before the call abruptly disconnected. The family also alleged that after several attempts to reconnect, Giribala Singh answered the phone and informed Twisha’s sister-in-law that “she is no more" before disconnecting the call. SUPREME COURT SEEKS FAIR PROBE Hearing the matter on Monday, a Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi said the court would ensure a “fair, independent, and impartial investigation." The bench also urged both the victim’s and accused’s families not to make statements before media platforms and instead record their versions before the investigating agency to avoid influencing the ongoing probe.
HIGH COURT HEARING ON BAIL PLEAS Separately, the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday adjourned to May 27 the hearing on petitions challenging the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh, who is currently serving as chairperson of the Bhopal Consumer Court. During the hearing, Giribala Singh’s counsel sought more time to file a formal reply, arguing that the petitions filed by Twisha’s father and the Madhya Pradesh government were based on different grounds and therefore required separate responses. The high court had earlier issued notices to Giribala Singh in the matter.
