"I am on a mission โ Ayush Malik." These words, written on the first page of a diary recovered from the house of Ayush Malik, the Shamli man whose conversion to Islam sparked a police investigation before he later returned to Hinduism, have become the latest focus of an ongoing Uttar Pradesh Police investigation into the case. The diary, which was accessed by India Today TV, was recovered during a search conducted by police after receiving information that Ayush Malik had converted to Islam and adopted the name Mohammad Ali. According to police sources, investigators are examining whether the diary entry points to a larger conspiracy behind the alleged conversion. The cleric is currently on the run, and efforts are underway to trace him. The fresh revelations came hours after Ayush Malik announced that he had returned to Hinduism. In a video that surfaced after his return, he was seen performing Hindu rituals and prayers and stated that he had voluntarily decided to re-embrace Sanatan Dharma and live with his family. His father, Devaraj Malik, claimed that Ayush had formally returned to Hinduism after reflecting on the distress caused to his parents.
Earlier, Devaraj alleged that Ayush's lover Chandni Qureshi, a physiotherapist, and her father had brainwashed his son as part of a planned conspiracy and converted Ayush to Islam to gain control of family property worth crores of rupees. Chandni Qureshi and her father, Islam Qureshi, were subsequently arrested following a complaint filed by Ayush's father under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act. According to the FIR, Ayush, a B-Pharma graduate who helped manage his family's medical store, met Chandni in 2018 while undergoing treatment for a leg injury. Police allege that the two later developed a relationship, following which Chandni and members of her family gradually influenced him to embrace Islam. The complaint further alleges that Ayush was taken to Delhi in 2023, where he was converted to Islam and given the name Mohammad Ali.
