FSUI alleges Indian sailor Rakesh Chauhan died under suspicious circumstances in Venezuela. (Image: X) The family of an Indian sailor whose body was repatriated from Venezuela has alleged that several internal organs were missing, prompting the Federation of Seafarers’ Unions of India (FSUI) to demand a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Chauhan, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, who allegedly died under suspicious circumstances while in Venezuela.
Family Alleges Lack Of Clarity Over Death According to the FSUI, Venezuelan authorities did not provide the family with a post-mortem report or any detailed explanation regarding the circumstances leading to Chauhan’s death before his body was sent back to India. The union said the absence of official information has raised serious concerns among the family. Second Post-Mortem Raises Questions FSUI claimed that a second post-mortem conducted in India found that several vital internal organs were missing from the body. According to the union, the medical report stated that the exact cause of death could not be established because the organs required for forensic examination were not present. Authorities have not independently confirmed the union’s claims regarding the post-mortem findings.
FSUI Seeks Probe, MEA Intervention The Federation of Seafarers’ Unions of India has called for an impartial investigation into the case and sought accountability from the Venezuelan authorities. The union has also urged the Indian Embassy in Venezuela and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to intervene and ensure a transparent investigation. Among its demands, the FSUI has sought the public release of the complete post-mortem report, justice for the deceased sailor’s family and appropriate compensation. Investigation Sought The allegations have intensified calls for an official inquiry into the circumstances of Chauhan’s death and the handling of his body before it was repatriated to India. There has been no immediate response from the Venezuelan authorities or the Ministry of External Affairs regarding the allegations.
