(Image: X) The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) rescued all six crew members of a distressed fishing boat that began taking on water due to hull damage in rough seas off the Suratkal coast near Mangaluru, officials said on Tuesday. According to the Coast Guard, ICGS Sachet intercepted a VHF radio distress call from the fishing vessel Manju Matha at around 4 pm on June 29.
The boat, located about 33 nautical miles off the coast, reported severe flooding after sustaining damage to its hull. The rescue operation was carried out amid rough seas, strong winds, poor visibility and approaching darkness, making conditions particularly challenging. Despite the adverse weather, the Coast Guard deployed remote-operated lifebuoys and safely rescued all six fishermen without any injuries by around 6 pm. Fishermen Brought Ashore Safely The rescued crew members were brought to New Mangalore, where they are being provided temporary shelter while the required formalities are completed.
The fishing boat Manju Matha, registered in Udupi, is a 10.97-metre-long fibreglass vessel built in 2019.
