Representative image A woman was found dead at a homestay near Nandi Giridhama in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district, with police suspecting she was allegedly assaulted and killed by her boyfriend, who was later found injured after an apparent suicide attempt. The deceased has been identified as Sai Surabhi, while the accused, Mohammed Sanjith Ali, has been admitted to the Chikkaballapur District Hospital. Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Body Found At Homestay According to police, Surabhi’s body was discovered at a homestay near Nandi Giridhama. Preliminary investigations suggest that she was allegedly murdered by Sanjith Ali, who later attempted to take his own life.
He is currently undergoing treatment under police supervision. Relationship Began After Cab Booking According to information available, Surabhi, who belonged to a Brahmin family from Bengaluru’s Yediyur area, met Sanjith Ali, a Kerala native, while booking a cab. The two later entered into a relationship and reportedly lived together in Kumaraswamy Layout. Earlier, when Surabhi’s family objected to the relationship and approached the police, she reportedly stated that she was an adult and had the right to choose her partner. Family Alleges Abuse, Drug Use Surabhi’s family has alleged that Sanjith Ali introduced her to alcohol and narcotic substances, leading to addiction. They further claimed that an NDPS Act case had previously been registered against him after drugs were allegedly recovered during a party within the jurisdiction of the Kumaraswamy Layout Police Station. The family also alleged that Surabhi was subjected to repeated physical abuse during the relationship. According to them, she later underwent six months of treatment at a rehabilitation centre in Mysuru before returning to live with her mother.
They claimed she later resumed contact with Sanjith Ali, following which the incident occurred. Mother Levels ‘Love Jihad’ Allegation Speaking after the incident, Surabhi’s mother, Geetha, alleged that Sanjith Ali had previously threatened her, prompting her to file a complaint with the Kumaraswamy Layout Police. She further alleged that the accused was involved in multiple criminal cases, including in Kerala, and described him as a drug addict and drug peddler. Geetha also claimed that he had administered drugs to her daughter, sexually assaulted her and was already married. Calling the incident a case of “love jihad", she accused the state government of failing to act against drug networks and demanded strict punishment for the accused. Police Investigation Underway Police have not confirmed the family’s allegations, including those relating to drug offences or “love jihad". Officials said the investigation is continuing and that the exact sequence of events and motive behind the woman’s death will be established based on forensic evidence and the ongoing probe.
