As the probe widens, Siya’s parents have given investigators a detailed account of how the engagement came about, an account that clashes sharply with the version put out by Ketan’s family in the days after the murder.
Could Siya Really Have Plotted A Murder? Siya’s father told police his daughter, just 20 years old, could not have planned a killing under any circumstance. He pointed out that trekking was Ketan’s passion, not Siya’s, suggesting she had little personal stake in the activity that ultimately led to his death. The family described Ketan as “a diamond of a boy" from a good household, and said they had never heard of Chetan Chaudhary, Siya’s alleged accomplice, until his name surfaced in news reports. They also said that while Siya went to parties, she never drank alcohol. When Did The Family Actually Learn About The Wig And Stutter? This is where the two families’ accounts diverge sharply. Siya’s parents told police they only found out that Ketan wore a wig and had a stutter the day after the engagement ceremony, not before it, as Ketan’s family has publicly claimed. According to them, once they learned of this, they raised it with Siya, who then researched Ketan’s profile online and listened to his public speeches before agreeing to proceed with the wedding.
This stands in contrast to what Ketan’s father, Vishal Agarwal, had said earlier: that his son’s minor hair loss “had been openly discussed with Siya Goyal and her family long before the engagement," and that “if she had any issues, she could have just said no." What’s The Case So Far? Ketan Agarwal, 25, died on June 18 after falling from Lohagad Fort near Pune. What was first treated as a trekking accident is now being investigated as a planned murder, with police alleging that his fiancée Siya Goyal and her boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary pushed him into a 400-foot gorge during a visit to the fort. Siya had initially told the family Ketan slipped while trekking, but a deeper police investigation, aided by CCTV footage and call records, established that the death was the result of a conspiracy. Both Siya and Chetan have since been arrested on charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. With both families now offering conflicting timelines on a key piece of evidence, police are yet to confirm which version holds up under further investigation.
