The Central Kisan Committee (CKC) of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has called for intensifying farmers’ struggles across the country following its two-day meeting
The Central Kisan Committee (CKC) of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has called for intensifying farmers’ struggles across the country following its two-day meeting held at the YMCA Centre in Mumbai on Sunday (June 28, 2026) and Monday June 29, 2026). The meeting addressed multiple issues affecting agriculture and decided on a series of protest programmes. The CKC meeting discussed falling agricultural produce prices, rising input costs, crop insurance issues, land acquisition policies, fertiliser shortages, loan waiver schemes, and sugarcane pricing. The meeting also examined the functioning of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the impact of proposed trade agreements.
“The policies of the government have intensified attacks on farmers,” said Ashok Dhawale, AIKS national president. He termed the India-U.S. Free Trade Agreement and the India-New Zealand FTA as arrangements that would affect farmer interests. Dhawale compared agricultural budget allocations between India and the European Union. According to him, the EU allocated 408.31 billion euros (₹43.8 lakh crore) to agriculture between 2014-2020, constituting 38% of its total expenditure. The amount earmarked for 2021-2027 is 387 billion euros (Rs 41.5 lakh crore), or 31% of the total budget.
In contrast, the latest Union Budget allocated Rs 1.37 lakh crore to Agriculture and Allied Sectors, which is 2.7% of the total Budget. The meeting decided that AIKS would participate in the Convention of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) scheduled for July 28 in Delhi. The organisation also resolved to join the Struggle Convention being organised jointly by SKM and Central Trade Unions on July 29. The committee announced participation in the Jail Bharo (Fill the Jails) movement scheduled for August 10 at the district level.
The programme will involve farmers, workers, and agricultural labourers. To mark the completion of 90 years of AIKS, the meeting decided to organise commemorative programmes across the country. On November 15, the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, AIKS flags will be hoisted in villages, and meetings, lectures, seminars, and cultural programmes will be held. The next Conference of AIKS will take place from November 18-21 in Nalgonda, Telangana.
