According to the police, Ali used to assault Surabhi and often inflicted injuries to her private parts, India Today reported.
However, the victim had informed her family that she wanted to marry Ali, which her family often disapproved of. Subsequently, the couple eloped and the family filed a missing persons complaint. Surabhi later returned and asserted that being a major, she had the legal right to choose her partner, police said. After this, the duo moved in together. During the course of their relationship, Ali introduced his girlfriend to narcotics, leading her to develop an addiction to alcohol and drugs, India Today reported. Surabhi Rescued By Family, Admitted To Rehabilitation Centre According to police, drugs were allegedly recovered from a party, which Surabhi and Ali had attended, leading to the registration of a case against the couple under the NDPS Act. Subsequently, Surabhi was rescued by her family and later admitted to a rehabilitation centre in Mysuru –– where she spent nearly six months before arriving in Bengaluru to live with her mother, according to India Today.
However, she later resumed contact with Ali, despite allegations of assault and drug-abuse –– a development that remains under investigators’ scanner. According to police, Ali learnt that Surabhi had arrived in Chikkaballapur to volunteer at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) campus. Following this, he travelled there and booked a homestay, where the duo stayed together for three days before the incident happened. Police said they were trying to determine the cause of the death. A post-mortem report was awaited, they said, adding a probe is also underway to identify the exact sequence leading up to the Surabhi’s death. Chikkaballapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Kushal Chowksi said there were no visible injury marks on the deceased’s body. A rope, a large number of tablets, and signs of vomiting were found inside the room, news agency ANI reported.
