Tamil Nadu government will only procure AC buses henceforth, Transport Minister Vijay Tamilan Parthiban said. Speaking to reporters, he said that Chief Minister Vijay wants the public to travel extensively and comfortably in air-conditioned buses. Parthiban made the statement on the sidelines of an event conducted on behalf of the ruling TVK in Salem on Sunday. He said that Vijay has said that every remote region in Tamil Nadu must be connected via a bus network, according to a Hindu report.
The Chief Minister also said that every bus should have facilities so that every individual, including him, could travel comfortably. Read Full Story Parthiban told reporters that while Vijay recently travelled on a government bus, he wished that every new bus should have air conditioning facilities, the Hindu report added. Last week, Vijay flagged off a fleet of as many as 300 new buses across the southern state.
During the visit, the actor-turned-politician was seen interacting with a conductor. The new fleet, obtained at a cost of Rs 127.21 crore, consists of a total of 164 diesel buses and 136 BS-VI compliant CNG buses. The vehicles have immediately been deployed from key transit hubs such as Koyambedu and Kilambakkam to boost connectivity and cut down waiting times for commuters. The flagging off ceremony was attended by several senior ministers and officials of the state Transport Department, among others.
The development is TVK's goal towards modernising the existing public transport network and facilities of Tamil Nadu and bettering connectivity across the southern state. Ends
