Five people were killed and three were injured after a neem tree fell on an e-rickshaw during a storm in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad district on Monday evening, police said. The e-rickshaw was on its way from Awagarh in Etah district to Fariha when the tree collapsed on it, crushing the vehicle and trapping all eight passengers inside, officials said. The accident took place at around 8:30 pm near Chidrai village in Jasrana tehsil, under the Fariha police station area.
Police said the e-rickshaw was completely crushed after the large roadside tree fell on it during the storm. Read Full Story District Magistrate Santosh Kumar Sharma said the vehicle had reached the Prithvipur-Chidrai village area when the sudden storm caused the neem tree to collapse. After receiving information, police and fire brigade teams reached the spot and, with the help of villagers, arranged a JCB machine to remove the tree.
The injured were taken by ambulance to the government trauma centre. However, five of them died before reaching the hospital, police said. The three injured are being treated at the district hospital. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The dead were identified as Gajendra, 28, a resident of Batolar in Fariha; Haresh Pal, 59, a resident of Nagla Fateh in Fariha; Vishnu, 20, a resident of Ikhu in Fariha; Aman, 17, a resident of Nagla Manda in Sakrauli, Etah; and Ganga Singh, 65, a resident of Anandpur in Awagarh, Etah.
The accident also led to a massive traffic jam on the road as rescue work was carried out after the storm-hit e-rickshaw was crushed under the fallen tree. Ends
