Udhayanidhi Stalin hits out at TVK, terms MLA resignations ‘a betrayal of the people’

Following the resignation of M.R. Vijayabhaskar from the Tamil Nadu Assembly, making him the sixth MLA from the AIADMK to resign, Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday termed the action a betrayal of the people. He charged that the development clearly exposed the extreme levels to which the ruling party’s “poaching politics” had escalated.
“Continuously purchasing MLAs due to a lack of confidence in alliance partners that helped them form the government is a massive betrayal of the people,” he said. Quoting Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s Assembly speech, where he had declared that they
would not “touch a single paisa of public money, nor will we spare those who did in the past”, Mr. Udhayanidhi questioned why the ruling party was now attempting to induct someone embroiled in a disproportionate assets case. [There was no
official announcement on the induction of such people in the TVK till late Monday evening.] He added that Tamil Nadu was closely watching this “Washing Machine politics” and warned that the people would teach them a fitting lesson through the “forced byelections”.
