Minister of IT, Electronics and Communications, and Human Resources Development Nara Lokesh said on Monday (June 29, 2026) that he wished to see Andhra Pradesh emerge as a role model for the entire country with its best practices in pedagogy and school education. Felicitating students who performed outstandingly in the Class X and Intermediate examinations at a programme held in Tadepalli on Monday, the Minister described the best-performing students, or ‘shining stars,’ as brand ambassadors and lauded them for strengthening public trust in government schools and restoring their glory.
Stating that he is proud of their achievements, the Minister hoped that their outstanding performance would boost admissions into government schools. “Next year, two lakh children should transfer from private to government schools,” he said, adding that there would be a mega parent-teacher meeting in July. Addressing the students, he stated that, as promised in the previous meeting, he has restored prestige to government schools with the support of the students. He also expressed his hope that more students would consider entering politics to bring positive change in the society.
The HRD Minister stated that if there is a need to put a ‘no admissions’ sign outside government school gates today, the credit goes to the “shining stars”—the hard work of teachers and parents—and the 100-day action plan. Noting that educational reforms required nearly two years of consistent efforts, Mr. Lokesh said that the government is spending nearly ₹1 lakh per student and urged them to honour that investment by becoming successful. Recalling that “One Class, One Teacher” initiative proved to be a game-changer, he said many reforms, including curriculum reforms, Thalliki Vandanam scheme, introduction of millet chikki, ‘No Bag Day’, among others, have brought about a change and increased the Class X pass percentage from 72.8% to 78.39%.
During the programme, Mr. Lokesh handed over ₹30,000 in prize money, medals, and certificates to 55 Class X students and laptops and medals to 61 Intermediate best performers. School Education Director Tamim Ansariya, Intermediate Education Commissioner Ranjith Basha, and other officials were among those present.
