India on Monday condemned Pakistan’s air-strikes on Afghan territory that have resulted in several civilian casualties, including women and children. Pakistan on Sunday launched a coordinated cross-border military operation involving air and ground strikes targeting alleged militant hideouts inside Afghanistan.
Responding to the attacks, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a statement “strongly condemning" Pakistan’s air-strikes in Afghanistan that have resulted in several civilian casualties, including women and children. “This blatant act of aggression by Pakistan is an assault on Afghanistan’s sovereignty and a direct threat to regional peace and stability." The ministry further said: “It reflects Pakistan’s persistent pattern of reckless behaviour and its futile attempt to externalize internal failures through desperate acts of violence beyond its borders." “India conveys its condolences to Afghan families that have lost loved ones, prays for early recovery of those injured and reiterates its unwavering support for Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity," it added.
Since last year, Pakistan has carried out multiple strikes along the border and inside Afghanistan, targeting what it says are TTP and other militant hideouts. Islamabad has repeatedly accused Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government of providing sanctuary to militants responsible for deadly attacks inside Pakistan, particularly the TTP. Kabul has denied the allegations. In response to initial Pakistani bombings that Kabul claimed caused civilian casualties, Afghan Taliban forces launched a large-scale ground offensive earlier this month, reportedly capturing several Pakistani border outposts and military sites along the Durand Line before being met with massive retaliatory air and ground strikes by Pakistan.
