Amid the raging political battle between Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy over acquisition of land for the Bidadi township project, a group of farmers from Hassan on Monday (June 29) accused Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Revanna, brother of Mr. Kumaraswamy, of stalling compensation to farmers whose land has been acquired in Hassan. The farmers, from seven villages in Hassan where land was notified for an Indian Institute of Technology, met the Chief Minister here and accused Mr. Revanna of harassing the farmers after the initiation of the land acquisition process.
The farmers’ delegation was led by Congress’ Arasikere legislator Shivlinge Gowda and Shreyas Patel, Congress MP from Hassan. According to a note released by the Chief Minister’s Office, farmers sought compensation as per the court orders, and said that the sites in lieu of land had not been allotted yet. Farmers alleged that though an acre now costs multiple crores, ₹25 lakh has been offered as compensation.
They accused Mr. Revanna of interfering in administration to stall the compensation process. They also claimed that attempts are being made to grab land for the H.D. Devegowda Education Trust. The Chief Minister assured the delegation that the government will be in favour of farmers, and that he would be the happiest man if farmers get more money.
“I will not serve one justice to Bidadi farmers and another to Hassan farmers.”
