Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday called for expediting the construction of Amaravati to ensure completion of the capital city within the stipulated timeframe, and invited reputed construction companies to partner in building the greenfield capital. Reviewing the progress of works being executed by the A.P. Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), Mr. Naidu said Amaravati should emerge as a futuristic, world-class and liveable city.
He urged officials and other stakeholders to remain vigilant against attempts by vested interests to obstruct the project, asserting that safeguarding public interest remained the government’s foremost priority. Officials informed the Chief Minister that works worth ₹50,999 crore had been awarded to contractors and that construction of the Legislative Assembly, High Court and Secretariat towers, besides housing, trunk infrastructure and Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) infrastructure, was progressing at a brisk pace.
Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana said 26,924 workers and more than 5,140 heavy machines had been deployed at various project sites. To prevent disruptions caused by flooding, the Kondaveetivagu and Palavagu streams had been widened, he added. Naidu said the coalition government had revived the Amaravati project after it had stalled, and reiterated its commitment to developing the capital into a world-class city. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be invited to inaugurate the completed buildings and infrastructure.
The Chief Minister said he would review the progress of the works once every two months. He also advised representatives of construction firms, including L&T, Shapoorji Pallonji, Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited, NCC, BSR and KMV, to maintain high quality standards while adhering to project timelines.
