The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday clarified that students currently studying in Class 9 will not have to appear for a board examination in the third language when they move to Class 10, while those in the present Class 10 batch will continue under the existing two-language system. The Board said the guidelines will come into effect from the 2026-27 academic session.Under the new framework, students entering Class 9 from the 2026-27 academic session will study three languages, with at least two being Bhartiya Bhashas (Indian languages).
