The Congress on Monday claimed that the State Bank of India (SBI) had recommended the removal of officials posted at the donation counting centre at Ayodhya's Ram Temple three months ago, and asked who had been protecting them before the alleged embezzlement came to light. The party also alleged that the donation theft case was only the beginning and said more such cases could emerge. Read Full Story Speaking to reporters in Raipur, Congress leader Pawan Khera said eight people had been arrested so far by the Uttar Pradesh Police in connection with the alleged theft of donations at the temple. He said, "Ayodhya ki loot jhanki hai, Kashi-Mathura abhi baaki hai," claiming the alleged loot in Ayodhya was only a glimpse and that Kashi and Mathura were yet to come.
Khera targeted Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and said he should be asked whether bulldozer action would be taken against the RSS or the Prime Minister's Office over alleged irregularities in the handling of donations and offerings made by devotees at the Ram Temple. Referring to Adityanath's remarks that Hindus returning from Bangladesh would be given the right to live with dignity in India, Khera said, "The RSS and PMO were directly looking after the Ram Mandir administration. Ask Adityanath, if there has been wrongdoing there, will bulldozers be sent to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's residence or to PMO? Just ask him this question and he will have no answer." He also claimed that SBI had flagged the issue earlier.
"SBI had recommended three months ago that those posted at the counting centre be removed. Who has been protecting them? Nagpur or Delhi?" Khera asked. Replying to another question, Khera said the United States was "insulting India every day" while Prime Minister Narendra Modi was remaining silent. "Modi ji should give us a list of those he is afraid of and those he is not," he said. On the reported move by the new BJP government in West Bengal to bring a bill on the Uniform Civil Code, Khera alleged the issue was being raised to divert attention from the Ram Mandir donation theft case. "The purpose (of UCC bill) is only to change the headlines and divert attention from what is happening in the name of Lord Ram in Ayodhya," the Congress leader claimed.
Khera was in Raipur to address the last day of a 10-day training camp organised by the Chhattisgarh Congress for district unit presidents in the Abhanpur area, where he used the occasion to press the party's attack over the alleged Ram Temple donation theft and the questions it has raised. Ends
