An organized paper leak network has compromised the Maharashtra Teachers Eligibility Test, leading to the postponement of the exam for over six lakh candidates. Authorities in Bhiwandi recently arrested three individuals possessing multiple sets of the question paper and checks worth forty-six lakh rupees. Investigators revealed the accused intended to sell the papers for over a crore. The operation is allegedly orchestrated by an absconding mastermind from Bihar linked to numerous similar cases across different states.
A previous India Today undercover investigation exposed this exact kingpin admitting to his crimes on camera and boasting about manipulating the legal system. The incident highlights significant vulnerabilities in the legal framework. While India enacted a strict anti-paper leak law for central exams with harsh penalties, state exams like the Teachers Eligibility Test remain governed by standard criminal laws. This regulatory gap allows repeat offenders to secure bail and continue exploiting desperate students, raising serious questions for state authorities and lawmakers regarding the future of educational integrity.
