The Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team to probe the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. This follows a complaint by the temple trust regarding stolen cash and offerings. Eight individuals, including cash-counting staff and a driver, have been arrested and sent to judicial custody, with nearly eighty lakh rupees recovered.
The local bar association has refused to represent the accused and demanded a central investigation. Amid the controversy, the trust's general secretary and a trustee have resigned on moral grounds. The trust has decided to terminate employees appointed through recommendations to improve transparency, even as questions arise over the delay in filing a formal police complaint.
