Nearly 35 years after the abduction, assault and murder of Kashmiri Pandit nurse Sarla Bhat in 1990, Yasin Malik is set to face trial after the Jammu and Kashmir State Investigation Agency filed a 737-page chargesheet before the TADA Court in Srinagar.
The SIA alleges that Sarla Bhat’s killing was not an isolated crime but part of an organised campaign of targeted violence by the JKLF against the Kashmiri Pandit community, aimed at spreading fear and facilitating the mass exodus from the Valley.
The chargesheet cites protected witness statements, forensic and ballistic evidence, documentary records, electronic material and a handwritten JKLF claim note recovered from the crime scene. Yasin Malik, currently lodged in Tihar Jail after his 2022 terror-funding conviction, attended proceedings through video conferencing.
The case now marks a major moment in the long-delayed pursuit of justice for Sarla Bhat and victims of targeted killings during the Kashmiri Pandit exodus. n18oc_india n18oc_politics n18oc_breaking-news News18 Mobile App
